Magnetizing Leviathan Dreadnought

Magnetizing a Leviathan Dreadnought

The ForgeWorld Leviathan Dreadnought is one amazing kit. One thing you’ll most definitely want to do is magnetize the gun options to give you more options to use your awesome new kit in a game. Jason’s here to share how he magnetized his kit…

Plan & Build First!!

Try to get all the pieces together first and make a plan. I decided against magnetizing the torso as it wouldn’t gain me anything when traveling (the reason why I magnetized my Imperial Knights). Figure out which side you want your weapons but when you do magnetize it keep the polarization the same so you can swap where the weapons live.

Bonus Tip: On the Drill and Claw arms, take your cables and dip them into hot water or use a heat gun to bend the cables so they can be glued to the top of the arm rather than onto the body like the instructions say. This way you can keep the cool looking cables but easily magnetize the arms.

Missile Rack

Magnetizing Leviathan Dreadnought - Missile Rack

I started to build and paint my first Leviathan before 8th edition came out and Chaos got access to them. So I wanted the missile rack to be optional. Glad I did because Chaos doesn’t have access to them in 8th. Either way, this is a really useful bit. I used 1/8 x 1/16 N48 magnets for both parts. I drilled underneath on the top hatch but just enough so the drill bit doesn’t come through. This hides the magnet on the body when not using the missile rack. Also drilled on the underside of the missile rack a bit to help it sit flush. Keep the small vertical tab as it stabilizes on the vents of the body part.

Arm Weapons

First up, Freud FB-001 1/4-Inch by 1/4-Inch Shank Forstner Drill Bit to get a nice flush base for the magnets. Drill just deep enough to fit a 1/4 x 1/16 N48 magnet on both pieces. These will be pretty flush and look good on the finished models. Personally, I glued in the shoulder piece rather than dealing with magnets on a ball joint attachment.

Chest Weapons

Also not as super useful in 8th edition for Chaos players is to magnetize the chest weapons. The kit comes with the option for flamer or plasma style weapons. I used some 1/8 x 1/16 N48 magnets on both the body and the weapons. Just be sure to measure a few times before drilling.

Hope this helps when building your own Leviathan Dreadnought!
